Ulysses S. Grant, Union Army hero of the American Civil War, was later elected the 18th President of the United States, serving from 1869 to 1877. He worked to implement Congressional Reconstruction and to remove the vestiges of slavery. He was born in 1822 in Point Pleasant, Clermont County, Ohio. He died in 1885 and, thus, never had a chance to taste Cincinnati chili.
