Q102, WKRQ, originally signed on in 1947 as WCTS, a classical music station. It became WKRC-FM in 1950, keeping the classical format. In 1970 the format was flipped upside down to top 40 and branded Stereo 102. The entire programming day was automated until 1972 when the call letters were changed to WKRQ, Q102, and live DJs were brought in. It’s remained the Queen City’s hit music station ever since.
