In 1978, Pete Rose contacted the Choc-Ola Bottling Co. in an attempt to partner with them. Choc-Ola was one of his favorites drinks and together they launched a separate chocolate beverage which would be officially endorsed by Rose called “Pete.”
However, per his contract, he was prohibited from making any unauthorized advertising reference to the Cincinnati Reds, including being shown in his Reds uniform and ball cap. This crippled the success of the “Pete” beverage and within a year it was off the market.
