Though set in the Tristate, WKRP in Cincinnati was based on Atlanta radio station WQXI, where show creator Hugh Wilson’s friend worked. It was taped in Los Angeles of course, though one episode, “The Airplane Show” from season 3, was partially filmed in the Tristate. In that episode, Les (Richard Sanders) reports on traffic from a World War I biplane.
