One of the greatest catchers of all time, Johnny Bench was an offensive and defensive powerhouse for the Reds from 1967 until 1983. He was an integral part of the Big Red Machine World Series teams. His number, 5, was retired by the team in 1984. Bench had a career batting average of .267 with 2,048 hits, 389 home runs, and 1,376 runs batted in. He still holds the Major League record for most grand slams by a catcher with 10.
