Eccentric “motelier” Colonel Harrison Rankin had several ways to market his legendary Eastside establishment, built in 1940. One was touting it as a health resort, while another involved driving around in a Cadillac with a fiberglass horse bolted to the car’s trunk.
El Rancho Rankin was located at the foot of Mt. Washington at the junction of Beechmont Avenue and State Route 32.
