The roller coaster known as Vortex operated for 33 years at Kings Island, beginning in April 1987. When it opened, it set several records including, tallest, full-circuit roller coaster with the longest drop in the world. It was also the first coaster to feature six inversions. It took the place of The Bat, the worlds first suspended coaster which closed after only three years due to structural and engineering issues.
